Koncepciu výstavy tvorí skupinový projekt založený na spolupráci. Autorov nespája len téma novovzniknutých diel, ale aj spoločná skúsenosť štúdia v ateliéri IN nielen v rokoch 2013/14. Všichni zapojení umělci se sešli v Open Studio Ilony Neméth na workshopu polského umělce Zbigniewa Libery. Po této zkušenosti vytvořili několik kolektivních děl/her: řetězové hry V SNG, na výstavě “Proč si nejdeš hrát s bráchou” v Pražské Trafačce a sérii performance X-Apatments. Liberovy workshopy vychází z teorie Open Form (Otevřená Forma), což je původně teorie polského architekta Oskara Hansena rozvinutá v padesátých letech v architektuře a převzatá v sedmdesátých letech umělci, kteří vyvinuli akční hry – interakce, site-specific situace a performance přičemž jejich účelem bylo jednoduchými vizuálními akcemi a reakcemi reagovat na jedince či skupinu, kteří v zadání mnohdy stáli sobě v ideologické opozici. V takových hrách se často střídá, kdo je v danou chvíli u moci, což určuje dynamiku celé situace.
Pointou výstavného projektu je práve skupina, vzájomná dôvera, spolupráca, ovplyvňovanie, ovládanie a následný protest v širšom spoločenskom kontexte. Skládá se ze dvou částí, z něhož první část je SMS hra, kdy umělci reagují na SMS, kterou přijali od jiného umělce. Základným pravidlom hry je téma protest. Pořadí je náhodne vylosované a umelci majú stanovený čas na vytvorenie diela tesne pred výstavou. V druhé fázi projektu každý z autorov dostáva možnosť ovládať ostatných a použiť ich ako materiál na tvorbu svojho vlastného diela paradoxne znova na tému protest. Na to otkazuje aj názov výstavy MOTION OF DIFFERENCE. Motion jako pohyb, pohnutí či hnutí, ale i jako formální návrh, používaný napríklad v parlamentu ‘call a motion’. MOTION OF DIFFERENCE může znamenat pohyb jinakosti/rozdíl, či zmenu. MOTION OF DIFFERENCE může být tedy protestem.
Výstavný program galérie Temporary parapet v roku 2019 z verejných zdrojov podporil Fond na podporu umenia. Fond je hlavným partnerom projektu.

The exhibition’s concept is based on collective cooperation. The artists involved are not only connected by the new works they produced for this project, but they also shared common experiences working together at the studio IN (Intermedia of Ilona Nemeth) at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava during the period 2013-14. All participants met there at the Open Studio of Ilona Nemeth during the workshop of Polish artist Zbigniew Libera. After this experience, they developed several collective works andgames which explored their relationships and trust. Those games were exhibited at Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava, at the exhibition ‘Why dont’t you go and play with your brother?’ in TRAFO Gallery in Prague and in a series of performances ‘X-Apartments’.
Zbigniew Libera’s workshops are drawn from Oskar Hansen’s theory developed in the 1950s in architecture and taken over by many visual artists in the 1970s. Those artists created action games - interactions, site-specific situations and performances, the purpose of which was to react to the individual or group with a simple visual action, but where those groups or individuals were usually in ideological opposition to each other. It was common in such games that the position of power was passed from one to another creating a unique dynamic for each situation.
The aim of this project is to make use of the pre-exisiting trusting, collaborating, controlling relationships between this group of people and to apply this to the theme of protest in a wider social context. The project had two stages. In the first messages were passed from one artist to another and the receiver had to create a visual reaction to the prompt. The prompts could be anything related to the theme of protest but no additional context was provided. The goal was to capture an immediate reaction and represent that in a visual form.
The second stage of the project was to produce a performance using the same chain-game method. We were each given the opportunity to direct one of the other members of the group to act out a performance, again using the theme of ‘protest’. The resulting performances were filmed and the video of the performances was installed in the exhibition ‘Motion of Difference’. The title ‘Motion of Difference’ refers to motion as a movement both physical and political as well as the tool of governance and decision making. ‘Motion of Difference’ can mean a movement towards change, to a new direction - it can be the voicing of a protest or a shift in power dynamic.
