In ‘Freedom Square’ I explored the history of the Freedom Square in Slovakia which had a unique history of frequent design and name changes triggered by changes in the political leadership. In the video, Bratislavians recount their memories of the changing space and former architecture including the massive statue of Klement Gottwald, now removed, and both their hopes for the future of the square and their own futures. The project also explored questions about public space, collective memory and its representation in monuments.
